My first attempt at designing my own logo resulted in a set of crossed knives. Then a skull with crossed knives. Then a horse. All looked very appealing but always felt as if something wasn’t quite right. One day I was reading about my grandad’s first NRHA champion horse. I was raised on many old folk tales and legends. The tall tale of Pecos Bill came to mind, along with his horse, Widow Maker. This horse could run faster, jump further, and handle better than any other horse. What’s more, only Pecos Bill could ride Widow Maker. In a similar fashion, only I can create my art. Then I remembered brands, as in the iron you would heat up in a camp fire to brand cattle. I settled on a minimal W and M which I fashioned into an ambigram. After I finished the final sketch, I sat back, and it spoke to me.
